May your homescreen ‘Live long and prosper’

Around the Droidaphile offices if you want some help with crazy homescreens or theming you talk to Ste. Me, I am simple bloke when it comes to my homescreen. I keep it clean and pretty stripped. I am not one for a fancy layout. But after seeing this I had to share it all with you

I came across it a couple of nights ago on the UCCW Widget page and then by chance came saw his post about the entire layout.

It is all designed by Xda member Ke5tny. Also like him I am not a big Star Trek fan but after seeing this I just felt like I had to share it. Over to Ke5tny for the lowdown on it:

Heres the new idea with the uccw widget on the main page. This is actually one large graphic split into 5 screens. Not a big star trek fan but it turned out cool.

(App review) My Battery Drain Analyser

My Battery Drain Analyser by WAZA_BE is a very handy little App that allows users to track just how much of their battery is being drained each hour.

As someone who constantly checks how much battery is left on whatever device I am using two things have always struck me 1: How much protected time is left in my battery, and 2: Exactly how much of my battery am I losing every hour?

One thing I love most about this not what the app does. The app itself is very simple all it is designed to do is to tell you how much battery you are losing each hour. It will not tell you what apps are causing it. Nowhere in the description does it say that will do that. But it seems that some people do not read the description if they did they would be faced with this.

Every time someone asks for individual app listing and wich app drains the battery… God kills a kitten.
So , please, don’t.
This is simply impossible without monitoring every millisecond and destroying your battery

I love this little app, it is small, easy on the resoures. My only slight issue with the app is just a small visual thing. On my tablet the widget does not fit just right. I did pop a little email off letting the dev know and he promptly got back to me letting me know that it was something that would be sorted for a future release. You can still see all the information you need to. Like I said it is only a small niggle. Plus if I could make it transparent that would be amazing. But that is me.

So if like me you are interested in keeping an eye on your battery drain give this a go. It is free from the Play Store

Andru, the coolest Android charger now shipping internationally

Do you remember the Android charger Andru from Gen? Of course you do. When we all saw it we all wanted one. But us being based in the UK could not get one because they would only ship inside the US. Now no more. I recieved an email from them letting me know that the Andru chargers ship anywhere in the world. This is what the email detailed:

Department: General

Subject: Press Releases, updates/mailing list

Robert,
Just an update – your readers can now order Andru to be shipped anywhere in the world. Simply select “International Checkout” from your shopping cart. Andru comes with US-style AC blades only at this time, but can work at 90~264V input.
regards,
Joseph

Sincerely,
Salom America Company

So there you have it. Or rather you can have it with a US plug if you want one. But let’s all be honest we don’t want one to plug our phones into, we want it to sit there and look cool. Andru himself is $25 (£16.50) and shipping comes in at £16.20 to the UK, for other parts of the world you will need to check each price Aus for example is charged £17.77, Romania is £19.14 so you get the idea.

If you are after one hit the link and order away, there is nothing to stop you now

Fotolio, a gallery app for photographers or artists

If you have not noticed the changes going on in the Android Market today, or should I say Google Play then stop reading this and check what we had to say earlier. One of the best deals there is Camera Zoom FX, possibly on of the best and fully functioning camera apps on the store. Perfect for all you budding photographers who want to get the best out of the photographs they take.Or if you are an artist, load up your images to display.

This is what the dev has to say about it:

I am a photographer and know a little bit of programming from high school days. I love the Xoom tablet and first thing I thought of using it for was for my photography portfolio. I soon realized that the built-in gallery is way overkill for something like a portfolio which gave me an idea to develop a simple app suited to showcase art or photography portfolios.

When you first open it up it asks you to select the folder you wish it to read. From then on it displays all the photographs in a wonderfully simple and clean way. There a couple of things to point out. This is not a gallery replacement. You cannot edit, share, rotate pictures from within the app. However it does not claim that it will be able to. It is not what the app is designed for. It is designed to showcase pictures and no more. And while it may still be in beta it does it very well indeed.

If this is the sort of thing you have been looking for give it a look, it is free and on the Play Store right now.
